Description
The vineyard “Sutherland” is located about 70 km south-east of Cape Town in the Overberg region. It is unique in its location on a high plateau surrounded by mountains. This area is famous for its apple orchards, and is now gaining recognition for its fragrant white wines. The proximity to the sea with its cool breezes allows the grapes to ripen more slowly than in other regions of Cape Town.
“Sutherland” Riesling is an elegant white dry wine made from Riesling grapes grown in Thelema Mountain vineyards in the cool climate of Elgin. Harvested and sorted by hand. The berries are separated from the ridges, crushed and placed in steel tanks, where the wort is cooled overnight. Fermentation is carried out at a controlled temperature of 14 C in stainless steel tanks. Wine is recommended to serve as an aperitif, as well as in combination with smoked mackerel, chicken in peanut sauce, fish with lentils or rice in pots, other moderately spicy dishes. The potential of the wine is 10 years.
