Wine Simonsig, “Redhill” Pinotage, 2019

Description

The first red wine, released in 1970 winery Simonsig was exactly Pinotage. Frans Malan became a pioneer in the use of small French oak barrels for aging “Pinotage”. Today, this variety occupies most of the vineyards planted on several farms, one of which is the famous vineyard Redhill – “Red Hill”, which is characterized by red soils of slate. These great-drained soil with a unique ability to retain moisture are considered the best for growing grapes for red wine premium “Redhill” Pinotage. Berries collected manually after a two-day cold maceration took place a short but intense ferment in open-top fermenters, with manual punching cap every two to three hours for optimum fruit and color. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 15 months in new oak barrels and two-year, of which 78% – the French, 22% – from American white oak.
“Redhill” Pinotage 2013 won the gold medal at the international wine competition “Veritas, 2013”.

Simonsig wine estate owner, located in the northwestern part of Stellenbosch, is family Malan. The estate noble grape varieties are cultivated and produced some of the best wines of South Africa.
