  • “Camarcanda” – the main wine estates Ca ‘Markandeya owned by the famous Italian winemaker Angelo Gaja. It is an expressive, harmonious wine has a characteristic fruity taste, a long, pleasant aftertaste and sophisticated, rich aroma. The name of the wine received on behalf of the farm Ca ‘Marcanda, which means “house of long negotiations.” Angelo Gaja verify the validity of this statement on their own experience. After all, he spent a lot of time shuttling between Piedmont and Tuscany, urging the previous owner of the estate to sell it. And every trip you up for disappointment and failure. One night, lying in bed, the wife of Angelo whispered: “I know … this is some Ca Marcanda”. And in 1996, after lengthy negotiations, Angelo Gaja was the happy owner of the estate, which is so called – Ca ‘Marcanda.
Vineyards economy Ca ‘Markandeya are located in Castagneto Carducci in Bolgheri. The grapes for wine making “Kamarkanda” grown in rocky, limestone soil called “terre bianche” (“White Land”), ideal for long-lived wines. After the harvest of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, fermented berries each class separately. Blending made after malolactic fermentation, the wine is then bottled in oak barriques, where stand 18 months. Further aging occurs in the bottle for 6 months.

Brand Gaja was founded in 1859 by Giovanni Gaia, the great-grandfather of the current owner Angelo Gaja, and for 5 generations, is owned by the family Gaia. To date, Gaja Winery owns vineyards with a total area of 250 hectares, located in the province of Tuscany and Piedmont. Angelo Gaja began its work in the family business in 1961, after completing their education in oenological Institute of Alba and the University of Montpellier (he later received a degree in economics from the University of Turin). Angelo has repeatedly visited France and inspired by modern and traditional techniques of French wine makers began to use the experience gained in the production of their own wines. His magnetism, charm and poetic reflections on the nature of the wine Angelo Gaja make one of the most respected and beloved figures in the wine industry in Italy. In 2011, the magazine Wine Spectator Angelo Gaja named one of the best winemakers in the history of Piedmont and Tuscany.
