  • The grapes for wine making “Mongris” Pinot Grigio is grown at three sites in the call: Villages of Farra d’Isonzo (at an altitude of 80 meters above sea level), San Floriano (250 meters) and Cormons (80 meters). The rolling hills of the Collio, formed during the Eocene, consists of layers of sandstone and clay rocks (limestone and clay), which were once at the bottom of the ocean. The proximity of the sea, located about twenty kilometers, as well as the nearby Alps, grant vineyards day cooling breeze and grapes after a warm sunny day. Mountains and the sea, as well as the rich minerals in local soils, provide an ideal opportunity to create a complex, well-structured wines that have decent storage capacity. After harvesting the grapes Pinot Grigio manually separated from the ridges. Further held cold maceration of the skin and soft pressing of grapes. Fermented wine in stainless steel, then allowed to stand for several months in the sediment. Thanks to the excellent climate and the characteristics of the local soil, “Mongric” has become one of the most popular local wines.

The word “Mongris” – the result of a merger of two words: “mono” (one grape variety) and “gris” (local designation Pinot Grigio). Pinot Grigio appeared in these parts about 150 years ago and today it is one of the most popular white grapes in the region.
