Description
Canalicchio di Sopra, Rosso di Montalcino is a young, fruity and versatile expression of Sangiovese, which is the calling card of Canalicchio di Sopra wines. The wine has been produced since 1975, when it was called “Vino Rosso dai vigneti di Brunello”. Harvest for making wine comes mainly from young vineyards in Canallicchio Cru, located at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level on soil with a strong clay component, very rich in elements such as magnesium, iron and manganese. In some years, a small percentage of Sangiovese comes from Cru Montosoli, where shale is present in the soil, which guarantees the characteristic minerality of the taste of the wine.
2019 was a year of excellent maturation, when the balance of the grapes was guaranteed by a constant and balanced climatic trend, thus creating the prerequisites for excellent maturation. Fermentation of Sangiovese with daily soft pumping of the must and maceration on the skins for 20 days took place in steel tanks with temperature control. Then the wine was aged for 12 months in Slavonian oak barrels with a volume of 50 hl and French oak barrels with a volume of 750 liters. The 2019 Rosso di Montalcino celebrates the intensity of a bountiful harvest in its most direct and enjoyable version. Vintage can be drunk now or stored until 2025. Aeration is recommended before use.
