Description
Dry red wine “Grifi”, created from a combination of grape varieties Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, has become a real classic in the elite category Supertuscan wines. This wine was created as something that conveys the unique ability Sangiovese grapes combined with other varieties.
Vintage Sangiovese is assembled by hand at the end of September, and Cabernet Sauvignon – during the first week of October. Both varieties vinification tested separately in stainless steel using wine yeast. Alcoholic fermentation and maceration on the grape skins lasts from 20 to 24 days, depending on the quality of the crop. Subsequent malolactic fermentation and aging take place in French oak barrels: for Cabernet Sauvignon – new for Sangiovese – in barrels second or third time use. Excerpt lasts for 16 months.
Wine “Grifi” in 2011 received the status of “Commended” at the “Decanter World Wine Awards” in 2014.
The company produced wine Avignonesi “vultures” from 1983 to 1996, but, despite the popularity of the drink, its production was halted. Fortunately, in 2010 the company decided to revive the legendary wine. The main reason for this decision was the fact that many fans of fine wines could not forget the wonderful taste “Grifi”, and therefore often asked when the drink will be back on sale. In addition, the company increased the size of its luxurious vineyards, so was able to expand production.
When wine Avignonesi team are ready to resume production “Grifi”, specifically found an old vineyard in Montepulciano, which is ideal for the creation of this wine. Harvest from old vines planted in the 70-ies of XX century, allow to make a balanced, refined and elegant wine. The terroir of the vineyard wine with refreshing acidity passes and exquisite ethereal notes.
Avignonesi history began in the second half of the XVI century, when the architect’s drawings Jacopo Barozzi was built a beautiful palace Palazzo Avignonesi in Montepulciano. In his cellar wine barrels “Vino Nobile”, belonging to the family of Avignonesi. “Quality is created by people: it is improved thanks to the experience, dream and dedication,” – these words is the philosophy of Wine House Avignonesi having over their shoulders centuries of experience and embody his dream in life – the production of high quality wines, praising his region.Cherez several centuries in 1974 the company has experienced considerable change – control winery passed three brothers Fulvia by which Avignonesi become a strong player in the Italian wine market, and has become one of the largest landowners in the region with more than 250 hectares of lands, of which 225 hectares have been brought to the vineyards.
The main activity of the company is focused on the production of Avignonesi powerful red wines “Vino Nobile”, which brought fame to the wine house. Avignonesi also produces a small amount of sweet wine “Vin Santo” – one of the best in its class. Apart from the traditional to the region of Montalcino wines, the company produces Supertuscan wine: “50 & 50” from Sangiovese and Merlot, as well as white wine “Il Marzocco” of Chardonnay. The company also produces excellent Avignonesi grappa and olive oil “Extra Vergin”, for which the crop harvested in their own olive groves.
